He possesses a law degree from the University of Hertfordshire and an LLM degree from University College London, University of London in the United Kingdom. A Chartered Arbitrator, he is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom and Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators. Datuk Simon Shim was a member (being the only one from Sabah and Sarawak) of the Malaysian Corporate Law Reform Committee and its Working Group on Corporate Governance and Shareholders\u2019 Rights which were responsible for reviewing the old Companies Act 1965 and introducing the new Companies Act 2016.
